Cambodia, Sign-on to support Boeung Kak lake community - Free the 15!

Thirteen women representatives from the Boeung Kak Lake community in the capital, Phnom Penh, were sentenced to up to two-and-a-half years in prison after a summary trial. Derailed: Rehabilitation of the Cambodian Railway is Impoverishing more than 4.000 Families

Bridges Across Borders Cambodia has closely monitored the resettlement process and impacts of the GMS Rehabilitation of the Railways in Cambodia Project . The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is contributing $84 million in concessional loans and the Australian international aid agency AusAID is contributing $22.9 million in grants to this project, which stands to impact at more than 4000 families who live along the tracks.

La policía antidisturbios y el equipo de derribos del gobierno entran en conflicto con los residentes durante los derribos de chabolas en el pueblo de Corazón de Jesús, en la ciudad de San Juan (11 de enero de 2012). Según un estudio de Urban Poor Associates (UPA), defensor de los derechos de la vivienda, el año 2011 vio el mayor número de casos de desalojos documentados desde 1994. Desde enero a diciembre de 2011, un total de 14.744 familias, o 73.780 individuos, fueron desalojados en 39 incidentes. El 92 por ciento de los desalojos se consideran ilegales ya que no cumplen los requisitos recogidos en la ley de viviendas y desarrollo urbano. Siete derribos resultaron en violencia.

This is a life or death situation,” said Saru Magar, a landless squatter, who has been living at Bansighat settlement in the city centre for over 30 years.
