Mumbai: a joint World Zero Evictions Day on Oct, 31 2014

World Habitat Day-2014. Preparatory Meeting of the Working Committee

About 10 Social Activists, Community Leaders and Representatives of Grass-root NGOs participated in the 2nd  preparatory meeting on 23rd  September, 2014 at PROUD  Community Centre, Behind JPR, 90Ft.Road, Subash Nagar, Dharavi, Mumbai-400017.

The organizations who participated in the planning meeting were: International Human Rights Association(IHRA ), Committee For the Right to Housing(CRH ), Society for Human Environmental Development(SHED ), People’s Responsible Organisation of United Dharavi(PROUD ), All India Plastic Recycler’s Association(AIPRA ),

Then the Date for the above mentioned event was unanimously agreed decided as  on 31st  October, 2014  and the rally would start at 4pm from Kamraj Memorial School, Dharavi and pass through 90Ft.Road, Sumitra Hotel on Sion-Bandra High-way, Holy Maidan Road, Old Dharavi Road, Irani Hotel to Mahim Phatak where we would conclude our programme with a Public Meeting. A Memorandum will be prepared to be submitted to the State Chief Minister, Housing Minister and all the heads of major Political Parties.

Consenus was that there will be common show-charts  and one main banner  on WHD/WZED  theme with the names of all participating organizations which will be placed on front and apart from that every organization can have their own banners, show-charts, badges etc. 

Some of the Demands so far are:

  • No Slum Redevelopment  until the approval from the Majority People.
  • People whether  they are on Pipeline, near Railway lines, Project-affected, Under Tata Power lines, & Bridges should be rehabilitated within Mumbai City .
  • Our Govt. wants Public-Private Partnership, but we demand  Public-Private-Community Partnership  in the Slum Redevelopment.
  • Just building flats are not enough but the Livelihood of the people is more important for Sustainable Development .
