Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap kicked off their #ZeroEviction campaign with several protests. They joined other groups trooping to the House of Representatives against the Emergency Powers Bill, while residents of Apollo, Tandang Sora who have been homeless since June painted and confronted the blockade to their homes and relocatees in Montalban who have been occupying vacant housing units held a ‘banig protest.’

I would just like to share with you some updates on our campaign. The government of Philippines  had it's first housing summit under the new administration. KADAMAY was there to participate and we also brought along a large contingent (around 4,300 people).

El gobierno no ha respondido con amabilidad a la acción masiva y ha sometido a los manifestantes a un bloque de alimentos, el acoso hacia los filipinos pobres es ininterrumpido. El 10 de marzo, el gobierno dio un ultimátum a KADAMAY y a los miles de filipinos urbanos pobres para que abandonasen sus premisas en 7 días o serían desalojados mediante el uso de la fuerza extrema.Como respuesta alrededor de 20.000 personas han ocupado hasta la fecha cerca de 6.000 viviendas.¡La AIH se solidariza y pide por el apoyo a KADAMAY y a las personas para Cero Desalojos en Bulacán!

To mark the International Women’s Day, Kadamay launched the #OccupyBulacan  campaign on March 8, 2017. Almost 5,000 members participated and successfully occupied around 6,000 idle housing in five relocation sites on the first day. To date, about 20,000 members continue to sustain the campaign now covering Padre Pio de Pande resettlement, Pandi Heights BJMP Housing, Villa Luis AFP/PNP Housing, Pandi Residence 3, and Pandi Village 2.

An urgent appeal to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing: support #OccupyBulacan from eviction

KADAMAY, a national alliance of urban poor Filipinos that last March 8 led a successful campaign to occupy thousands of idle homes in resettlement sites, with the support of IAI ha sent an urgent Appel to Leilani Fahra, the UN Special Rapporteur for the Right ton Housing, to take action in order to address the demands and concerns of the homeless and urban poor. There is an air of urgency as the eviction is imminent and the occupation itself is the largest organized occupation by poor Filipinos in recent history.

The urban poor group says the spread of this malicious news can be used as a justification to increase the military and police presence around the occupied areas. This would not be the first time, corrupt authorities have used or even posed as rebels for their own agenda.
